Happy Tuesday, folks! 

As I’m gearing up to head back home for a while, I’m getting more and more excited about not living my cigar lifestyle out of travel humidors and pelican cases.  There’s just something liberating about not being tied to a limited amount of decisions once it’s cutting time. 

Which brings me to our question of the week:  

What type of humidor do you prefer?  Plastic, wood, electric, large, small, walk-in? 

Myself, I’m more of a plastic man these days.  The functionality of plastic meets my lifestyle more than wood, but I still miss the smell of opening a wooden cabinet.  Plastic is just so much easier to safeguard and travel with plastic no matter where I’m headed, without the headaches of seasoning, warping, seal testing, and all that jazz. 

There’s only one problem that I’ve discovered with plastic so far: no one has ever been bold enough to create a tower outside of wooden materials except for the wineadors.  

Why is that a problem? Because tupperdors and coolidors require us to stack boxes or cedar trays in a way that you have to remove a certain number of cigars in order to see the rest.  This is great if you want to forget about something, but soul crushing month after month and year after year.  

The greatest thing about a cabinet for me isn’t the space, but rather the vertical look angle that doesn’t require an immense amount of shuffling to smoke what you want.  If someone created a tower out of plastic or acrylic, I’d be in there like swimwear!  Similarly, I’m more of a vertical freezer kind of guy instead of a chest freezer. Pretty sure there’s a lot of crossover in my reasoning there as well.  

If there’s a downside to plastic outside of the available shapes and sizes, I haven’t found it yet.

I love the beauty of a wooden humidor on a desktop, but so many of them are awful for keeping cigars humidified. I had a great wooden humidor, but I have switched to tupperdors. They have near perfect seals. I can toss in a couple Bovedas and basically just forget about any maintenance. If I had a den/smoking room in my home, I would have both.

Winador with bovedas. Stores a lot of singles and is easy. That being said, have a coolidor for boxes that serves its own purpose

I personally use a cooler for a humidor. I like it cause it’s cheap, functional, and spacious. That being said, I would like to get a cabinet style humidor with shelves so I can organize my singles. I do not like sifting through a pile of singles to find that one particular cigar I’m after. I doubt I’ll make the leap until I outgrow my cooler though.

Really dig wineadors for the ability to keep stable temp and ample storage ability. Still love my desktop though.

I'm enough of a sucker for the beauty and smell of a well-made wooden humidor that I go with that, even if other things are easier. The extra effort is worth it for my enjoyment of my humidor, for me at least.

Since I don't travel, my wineador is king. Temperature control and a controlled environment means I can stabilize at 65°RH all year round.

Should I need to travel I will load up a travel case with a Boveda or two and be good to go!

Wineador with Heartfelt Beads. You basically never have to adjust humidity and temp is at the push of a button. Plus it just looks really cool...

I absolutely love the look and smell of the wood humidor sitting on a desktop. Perhaps too many years of them being featured on the desk of some powerful/important leading role in a movie!! haha.

Years ago when I was in the hobby for a while I used a nice oversized glass jar. Used a humidity control device of sorts, but the whole system was hard to get to your sticks and annoying to have to fish out the device to resoak it in water.

Now I am all about the use of a sealed plastic container. I soon will have my second Pelican Air storage container up and running. I use a boveda butler to check on it's success (probably more often than I need to). I also have mounted two 320 gm Boveda packs inside the lid. Keeps it truly perfect!

I think a coolidor would be a great idea and fun for display purposes. But for the space it takes up... I can hold a crazy amount in a couple of Pelicans!

I used to have a bunch of traditional humidors but dumped those for larger tupperdors.  Those larger tups eventually turned into three full-size winedors and I haven't looked back!  They're super low maintenance and let me have a really nice level or organization.

I travel alot and have grown fond of tupperdors over the past few years. If you get the right container (OXO) they hold humidity levels like a champ. However, I do love a traditional wooden humidors and keep a 200ct in my livingroom for guests and my daily smokes. For me it is about keeping that nostalgia alive but, remembering the functionality of it as well.

Nothing beats the classic appearance and cedar scent of a wooden humidor. With Boveda packs they are pretty maintenance free, just need to have enough packs on hand to recharge as needed.

I'm a wineador person - simple shelves and HCM beads.  Holds humidity rock solid.  I love it.

I've had a humidor for many years but just recently made the switch to tupperdor after the maintenance got too much. (Humidor started to leak humidity). I love the change, no maintenance, can see my cigars, can store anywhere. I do miss the aesthetics of a humidor out and will maybe make a switch to a wineador in the future as my collection grows.

Moving towards a coolidor myself just have to find the right spot in the house for it. Right now I store away In a few tupperdors that are hidden cause the lady doesn’t like the look of them haha. A Wineador is what I’m looking more and more at.

I acquired a large wooden humidor lined with milk glass, and it absolutely rocks!  It belonged to the father of my wife’s friend, and she kept it for years as it was his favorite possession - but last year she was moving and had no idea what to do with her dad’s big custom box, so she gifted it to me along with the custom built stand.  It’s about the size of a 20 gallon cooler and seals remarkably well - better than any of my other “traditional” wooden desk top humidors.  I put cedar pallets on the bottom and humidify with Bovedas - was amazed how well it stabilized humidity with the Bovedas.  Store boxes on the right side, and have cedar trays for singles and fivers stacked on the left side.  No idea when it was made (1930s perhaps?), but it’s a totally awesome piece!

Nothing beats the looks and smell of a wood humidor for me! Plastic is nice for traveling though.the 5-10 count traveldors always come in handy.

I've had really great results with the ammodor with Boveda, but my go to is my Whyntor with Boveda.

Tupperdor with 65% bovedas and some Spanish cedar strips from old boxes for me seems to work pretty well compared to the old wood desktop I ended up throwing away.

Coleman coolers with heartfelt beads. 1 pound of beads per 52qt cooler.  Simple and effective.

Pretty much the same here. I started with tupperware and I am going to continue with it. It's just too easy for storing and for moving around. Hell, it has it's own carrying handle for me. It's opened weekly so it has no problems breathing and I love how long boveda packs last inside of one. Plastic all the way for me.

With moving around a lot tupperdors just make it really easy. I also have a system of using 3 smaller tupperdors to seperate my cigars into ready to smoke, resting, and rare cigars. This helps prevent the whole digging through your cigars to find one for me.

I ended up going with Rubbermaid Brilliance containers due to a quickly-growing collection, and Boveda has definitely been my best friend.  

I grew up trying cigars with my dad and uncle, and they usually had elaborate wooden humidors, and one of my jobs was to check the small pieces of kitchen sponges to ensure they were just a bit moist.

Looking back (and seeing how poorly his nice cigars aged without proper care over the ensuing years), I am firmly in the plastic camp.  It is a pain to have to stack and in-stack them to find the cigar I want, but I tend to group by brand or overall vibe so it’s less difficult to find what I want.

I have found cedar-lined humidors can impart too much straight cedar aromas to cigars that definitely don’t need to smell that way!

I have a wineador with cedar shelves using Boveda 62s for humidification and any overflow goes into plastic Sistema Klip It containers with 65s.
