Discussion: Favorite Cigar Memory

Happy Monday, folks! 

One of the questions that I like to ask folks in interviews is about their favorite Cigar Memory.  When someone asks why you smoke cigars, what’s something memorable that comes to mind?  When lighting up something that you’re fond of, does it take you back to a special moment? 

What’s your favorite cigar memory? 

Interestingly enough, it seems that our favorite cigar memories always involve other people.  I’m curious about the responses we’ll get this week, but I don’t believe I’ve ever heard a favorite moment that didn’t at least include one other person.  

One of my personal favorites includes touring the A.J. Fernandez factory with friends from a local shop.  Not only were we put up in fantastic accommodations just feet from the factory floor, we also got to tour the barns and fields.  It was a surreal experience that I still recall vividly every time I smoke an A.J. cigar.

And, as cool as the cigar-related activities were, our driver also took us up to a stunning mountain view that was at least three times cooler than any of the pics we took that day.  Smoking cigars, enjoying an out-of-this-world view, and kicking back with friends was one of my all-time favorite moments to this date.

For me, it was when I first started smoking cigars. Was part of an internet cigar forum. We'd have a herd at someones local cigar shop. Bombing each other and the comraderie...

Best memory for me was sitting at the Hotel Nacional in Havana. I had a Cohiba Siglo IV and a mojito watching the sun set. Actually had a couple come up to me to tell me smoking was bad for me...

My first HERF was the most memorable.  Great people, good booze, tons of sticks thrown around.  I was still pretty new to the scene and got bombed about 40 cigars... "Oh have you tried Tatuaje?  No?  Here try these"

The night before my bachelor party, I hosted three close friends who are also regular cigar smokers. We grilled, drank whisky, and smoked...what seems like dozens of cigars. Really great night.

For me it isn’t just one memory, but a collection of memories. In college, for a few years when my best buddy and I first got into cigar smoking, every Thursday we’d eat pulled pork & Mac n cheese, then go play pool for a few hours, then end the night sitting on the same bench (or standing in the adjacent parking deck if it was raining) and smoke a cigar, talk, and watch all the other college kids walking back, often entertainingly intoxicated, from bars and parties. We looked forward to that every week. We were able to unwind and relax without being wild or getting into trouble. Now that we’re adults living a couple hours apart, we try to meet up once a month and get lunch and smoke, and create more memories to look back on.

My first memory of cigars was visiting my grandfather as a kid, I have no idea what he smoked but I always loved the smell when he lit one up.

It was also the first cigar for me. I was in the BWCAW on a 6 day camping trip. I was sitting on a rock by the water watching the sun go down and smoking my first cigar. I can still picture the sunset and that evening perfectly, all cause of the fact I had my first cigar that night.

I did a similar trip just a month ago and it brought back great memories as I was smoking the cigars I brought.

Easy......A Padron 1926 80 years, right after my oldest daughter got married thinking back on her growing up.
Been a lot of other smaller ones, but that's the big one.

For me it was smoking a cohiba cigar in the Dominican with my fiance on our honeymoon.

Going back to my grandfather's old house, were as a kid I remember him smoking cigars on the porch and liking the smell.  The current owner was a pipe smoker and let me smoke a cigar as he showed me around the place. Was so glad I decided to visit and to find an owner that was friendly and also a smoker.

Sharing a cigar with my brother. After getting into cigars I’ve only had one cigar with him and I treasure that night. Gave him a Bolivar Royal Corona and I had the same. It took him back to his high school senior trip to London where he said he had the same cigar.

Waking up early morning in the city of Oia on the island of Santorini. Lit a cigar up and watched the sun finish its rise over the caldera. Was there at the very beginning of spring, so in that moment it felt like I had this beautiful island all to myself!
