PATINA HABANO REVIEW – CALIFORNIA

Summary:  Chocolate, baking spices, and dried fruit in the first few puffs set this cigar up for success.  Man, this retro hale is smooth; there is almost no pepper punch to it.  Moving past the equator, the semi-sweet notes are no longer at the forefront, but compliment a kind of warm, granola flavor which I feel gives the cigar great balance.  The burn line isn't pretty, but I don't care.  Some maple syrup sweetness at this cigar's sunset.  Phenomenal flavors.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Enjoying homemade granola at the summit of a mountain you've just conquered.

Pairing Suggestion: Blonde ale.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Box.

PATINA HABANO REVIEW – WISCONSIN

Summary: Cocoa, citrus, cream, and oak on the finish started this cigar off. Strong chocolate flavors manifested, then took a turn toward mushroom, floral, and vanilla. The middle portions of the cigar dried my mouth out considerably. I didn’t enjoy the second third, but the final third came back around with a nice BBQ meat flavor.

The burn gave me no issues. The draw was just a bit snug.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Chocolate followed up with mushroom gravy.

Pairing Suggestion: Coke.

PATINA HABANO REVIEW – OREGON

Summary: This week’s cigar has a smooth wrapper...but a close look reveals just a small amount of tooth.  Tasting peanut and mild coffee on the cold draw.

Starting off with a lot of cedar, baking spices and some mild pepper spice.  It also has a seriously wonky burn.  After it sits for a minute, it stops producing smoke completely.  Hopefully this doesn’t go out on me.  I’m also tasting a floral sweetness long in the finish.  That’s pretty original.  Flavors really changing suddenly.  Wood notes become milder, and the sweetness tastes like sweetened tea.  Throw in another healthy dose of warm baking spices too.

Midway and I’m having to work way too hard to keep this cigar lit and keep it producing smoke.  The flavors are good but if I keep having to apply heat to it, that’s not gonna last.  Profile is still about the same as the first third.  A bit more pepper spice and the retro hale really accentuates that note.

Well, virtual high fives all around because I finally reached the last third of this cigar after more relights than I could track. Expectedly, the draw has tightened up considerably and the flavors have taken a beating.  Lots of construction issues with this one.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Giving your lighter a workout.

Pairing Suggestion: IPA.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.
