Thanksgiving Smokes: Our Cigar and Drink Pairings for Turkey Day

Thanksgiving Smokes: Our Cigar and Drink Pairings for Turkey Day

No holiday would be complete without cigars, so we figured we’d share our Thanksgiving lineup with you!  Here’s what we’ll be smoking on that special day:

Breakfast Cigar: PG 25th Anniversary Short Robusto

If you’ve not enjoyed a cigar first thing in the morning lately, take advantage of the holidays to do just that! The first cigar of the day is a beautiful thing, and Paul Garmirian knows how to kick start the day with a gourmet experience.

Thanksgiving Cigars: PG 25th Anniversary Short Robusto

This vitola is bolder than most other PG experiences, but sets the stage nicely for a day of smoking, joking, and enjoying the family.  Expect a truly delicious experience when paired with a mild-medium coffee finished with a splash of heavy whipping cream.

Pairing: Morning Coffee w/ Heavy Whipping Cream

Smoke Time: 45 mins

Mid Morning Cigar: Viaje Full Moon 2017

Can you think of a better way to wait for lunch than with a cigar and rum?  We can’t! The Viaje Full Moon is an annual release that’s usually enjoyed during Halloween but tastes just as delightful in November.

Thanksgiving Cigars: Viaje Full Moon

Flor de Cana 18 charmingly compliments Viaje’s Full Moon, teasing notes of gingerbread, pralined pecans, and fruitcake from the cigar.  And if there’s a single day of the year that qualifies to have dessert before a meal, surely it’s Thanksgiving!

Pairing: Flor de Cana 18

Smoke Time: 1-1.5 Hours

Lunch Cigar: Dunbarton Sobremesa Cervantes Fino

Sobremesa is a time spent after lunch or dinner to digest a heavy meal and enjoy the company of friends and family. Of course every day is a great day to enjoy Steve Saka’s Sobremesa, but Thanksgiving is too great of a chance to pass up!

Thanksgiving Cigars: Dunbarton Sobremesa Cervantes Fino

We’ve selected the Cervantes Fino vitola, a 6 x 46 beauty that will have you contemplating why employers don’t work an after-lunch cigar break into every schedule.  We’ll be enjoying ours with Blanton’s, a bourbon that goes toe-to-toe with Sobremesa in sophistication and complexity.

Pairing: Blanton’s Bourbon

Smoke Time: 1.5-2 Hours

Afternoon Cigar: Crowned Heads Le Careme Canonazo

Crowned Heads introduced Le Careme to honor Marie Antoine Careme, a French chef that’s attributed with popularizing the soufflé. And once again, we’re putting dessert ahead of the meal!

Thanksgiving Cigars: Crowned Heads Le Careme Canonazo

Le Careme presents a dry, baking powder sense of chocolate that pairs exceptionally well with anything sweet. In this case, we’re giving the nod to Navarro Vineyards’ Pinot Noir, matching up the medium-bodies of each while letting the flavors contrast in interesting ways.

Pairing: Navarro Vineyards Pinot Noir 2015

Smoke Time: 1.5 Hours

After Dinner Cigar: Davidoff Chef’s Edition

If we could only smoke one cigar on this wonderful day, it would of course be the culinary triumph that is the Chef’s Edition. Aptly named, this cigar perfectly captures the essence of a five-course meal in cigar form.

Thanksgiving Cigars: Davidoff Chefs Edition

Pairing such a masterpiece with a single pour seems challenging at first, but the Aberlour 18 is more than up to the task. Expect the sweetness of the scotch to temper the opening gambit of the Chef’s Edition while complimenting the late game with a very rewarding finish.

Pairing: Aberlour 18

Smoke Time: 2 Hours
