St. Patrick's Day Cigars: What We're Smoking This Weekend!

St. Patrick's Day Cigars: What We're Smoking This Weekend!

Welcome to St. Patrick’s Day prep 2018! In sober anticipation of this fine day, let’s begin by listing some of our favorites that we’ll be enjoying on Saturday.

By the way, did you know that Candela wrappers used to be all the rage in the U.S.? Before these oddly colored cigars were demoted to one weekend a year, they were actually very popular just two generations ago.

Like most other techniques in the industry, what began with Cuban intuition is still being employed today amongst several brands. And, if you can keep these cigars cool by enjoying them slower than your average smoke, their iconic notes of sweet grass can be quite pleasant. Black Works Studio Green Hornet

St. Patrick's Day Cigars: Black Works Studio Green Hornet

Black Works Studio is a sub-brand of Black Label Trading Company, a creative space for James Brown to work within that doesn’t affect their core line. Black Works initially released the Green Hornet as an event-only follow up to the Killer Bee, but allowed retailers to carry it after being flooded with requests. And while this cigar doesn’t wear the St. Patty’s Day spirit exclusively, it does sport just the right amount of candela to temper the spicy beginnings of a wonderful experience.

RoMa Craft CroMagnon Fomorian

St. Patrick's Day Cigars: RoMa Craft Fomorian

It turns out that Fomorians are a supernatural race belonging to the Irish culture, making this cigar one of the most aptly named sticks in our humidor for bringing the occasion and brand together. If you’re a CroMagnon fan, you appreciate the grace and grit that Mike Rosales and Skip Martin bring to the table. In the Fomorian’s case, it’s a perfect balance between the two. Take a CroMagnon 5 x 56 EMH and replace the wrapper with Candela to blow your mind with RoMa Craft’s take on the green scene.

Camacho Candela

St. Patrick's Day Cigars: Camacho Candela

Featuring another cigar that hasn’t been steadily available to retailers, the Camacho Candela is back this year with a total of 3,000 boxes nationwide. Expect a combination of their bold, signature Corojo tastes with a sweet plot twist from the Candela wrapper on this throwback to another decade.

Illusione H1 Candela

St. Patrick's Day Cigars: Illusione H1 Candela

One of Dion Giolito’s mildest creations, the Holy Lance Candela is practically synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day for cigar enthusiasts. Of everything that we’ve picked to enjoy this weekend, this Candela may get more action than all the others combined. Why? Because Dion made it, and he’s a genius. This is the guy that arguably kick started the boutique revolution years ago and blends home runs in his sleep. Take ‘er easy with this lancero and reap the rewards of the patient.

Drew Estate MUWAT Swamp Thang

St. Patrick's Day Cigars: Drew Estate Swamp Thang

Claiming the title of first to marry premium Fire Cured Tobacco and Candela, Drew Estate took it up another notch with the Swamp Thang. From a pairing point of view, this is the ultimate contrast: sweet and smoky, fresh and funky, mild and wild. What’s interesting about this cigar is that both the fire cured and Candela portions underwent a deliberate curing process that involves fire rather than an air cured process that regular cigar tobacco receives.
