ABUELO REVIEW – CALIFORNIA

Summary: Maple syrup and white pepper start this experience with a game of contrasts.  Wafting the cigar beneath my olfactory receptionists, the scent of the smoke coming off the foot is floral and inviting.  The burn line sucks, though.  (Tell HR that the touch-up was mandatory.)  Caramel and coffee goodness step into the office and take my mind off the flaky ash.

Over the hump, and tangy tropical fruit comes out of absolutely-freaking-nowhere (knock next time).   More burn corrections have me working hard.  Peanuts, and it’s closing time.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Break room vending machines.

Pairing Suggestion: Coffee.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack.

ABUELO REVIEW – WISCONSIN

Summary: This cigar brought a large amount of cedar, combined with smaller amounts of toffee, caramel, oak, and lemon. The cedar had some bite to it - it was a lot of cedar.

It performed well construction-wise. The draw was good, and the burn was generally even throughout the cigar. It burned at an average pace.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Cedar, cedar, cedar.

Pairing Suggestion: Coffee.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.

ACE Prime MXS Adrian Gonzalez El Titan Review

ABUELO REVIEW – OREGON

Summary: This is a light brown colored Robusto (or close to it). It has a nice open cold draw with floral notes and honey on the palate.

The floral notes were a facade.  The start of this stick offers dry notes of wood and black tea with milder flavors of leather and cream.  The retro hale carries a touch of pepper heat.  Also, there is more nuttiness and boldness in the retro hale.  It’s not as smooth in texture but it’s very nice.

Into the middle and we have some changes!  Mixed nuts, cinnamon, coffee and wood all with a creamy texture, and a long finish of leather.  The ash is a little messy, but the smoke is churning, and I haven’t had to do any maintenance.

Arriving at the end and we have a nice solid ash with bold flavors of wood and leather.  There’s a slightly mineral finish of mixed nuts and earth as well.  The flavors seem basic, but they’re not harsh so…guess that’s a plus.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Quick burning cigars with predictable flavors.

Pairing Suggestion: Rum & Coke.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack.

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
