The Voyage Review

Summary: This wrapper looks OLD (hoping that translates to aged). Cutting the cap, I notice this cigar looks under filled. A loose draw supports that hypothesis. Vanilla, a faint cane sugar sweetness, and a good amount of bitterness filibuster the first inch.  And now a burn correction is required. SHEEESH.

I blinked and I’m already halfway through. The burn has improved, but the flavor department remains stale with the addition of a metallic tingle on my tongue. Hopefully this was just a dud.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Frosted mini wheats.

Pairing Suggestion: Cask strength bourbon.

Blind Cigar Reviews at Small Batch Cigar

Summary: Flavor-wise, this cigar gave me lots of peanut off the bat. It added cream, cedar, a bit of sourness, a little pepper. I found it quite dry.

It hit snags on the construction side of things; it didn’t want to stay lit. I had to smoke it faster than my usual pace to keep it lit decently at all, and even then, it went out or got close to going out frequently. That pretty much killed the experience for me.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Using your lighter.

Pairing Suggestion: Coffee.

Cigar Reviews by Small Batch

Summary: With a smooth, milk chocolate colored wrapper, I had high hopes for the cigar based on its aesthetics.  Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

The first portion of the cigar had notes of oak and a chalky, floral finish.  I also tasted some mild baking spices and a touch of wasabi heat in the retro hale. Unfortunately, while that mix doesn’t sound entirely bad it was overall very bitter. The cigar started out with decent performance too, forming a solid ash and respectable smoke output.

As I near the middle of the cigar would notes and floral notes were the main flavors and again, they were bitter.  Profile was relatively void of any spiciness and I had to apply a couple of burn corrections during the middle section as well. Right towards the end as I neared the third section of the cigar, I started getting some black tea flavors in the mix.

I finally reached the last part of the cigar and overall, I would call the profile flat as it only contained notes of mild tobacco, hay and wood.  There was no spiciness to it at all and the smoke output dropped significantly.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Finding Legos in the dark with your feet.

Pairing Suggestion: Water. The profile of this cigar would be easily overpowered by many typical beverages that we use to accompany our smokes.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
