DAPPER DESVALIDO DISLA REVIEW – DOM

Summary: With a tight draw, this lightly freckled cigar begins with leather and pepper.  While the palate-pleasing department has plenty of room for growth, a room note of salted caramel and flowers engorge my olfactory member. Mint taps my left shoulder, I turn to my right, and it’s gone—sneaky bugger.  Don’t look now, but funky ginger has this cigar hitting its stride.

Halfway through, muskiness calls to mind an empty wine barrel.  Much like a glass of red wine, this cigar continues to open up (in terms of flavor, not draw).  A pine tree freshness has me once again looking over my shoulder, but this time I’m looking for a Christmas tree that might be influencing this review—no tree.

This cigar tastes expensive.  I don’t know how else to say that besides jotting down a plethora of tasting notes and comparing the cigar to vino.  While the flavors seemed to accelerate from walking to dashing along the way, the discomfort from the tight draw has me stringing the lights just below a box recommendation.

DAPPER DESVALIDO DISLA REVIEW – RICH

Summary: This cigar brought notes of earth, fig, leather, dark chocolate, oak, light roast coffee, a little bit of citrus, and a little bit of floral action.

The draw was tight - not enough to have a tremendous impact, but enough to be annoying.

DAPPER DESVALIDO DISLA REVIEW – BEN

Summary: Sweet tobacco and woodsy notes to start. As smooth as this starts, it's kind of boring until the second. Salty to enter the next half, followed up by baking spice on the retro, and cinnamon on the tongue.

As easy as this smoke is, I would have liked a smaller vitola and less smoking time to increase the flavor profile. What a long freaking smoke! Pretty sure I'm smoked out for the day. It's everything you expect from a 3 for $5 house cigar from your local B&M.

DAPPER DESVALIDO DISLA REVIEW – TED

Summary:  Starting with nice spicy wood notes mixed with umami flavors, raisin, very mild baking spice notes and a sharp flavor reminding me of Heinz 57 steak sauce.  But that’s the end of the good news for a while.  A large tunnel is wrecking it.  I’ve cut past the tunnel twice trying to salvage this sample, placing me nearly at the middle of the cigar.

Into the middle of the cigar and pass the tunnel; the flavors return to those I experienced at the beginning, and they are very good. There’s the addition of some green bell pepper flavor, and a little less spiciness around the wood notes.  Smoke production is good, and the retro hale is smooth and has a little sweetness to it.

The last third of the cigar is also proving very enjoyable and includes notes of wood, leather, mild spices, a hint of umami, very mild pepper, spice, and a rich thickness to the smoke. The profile has a lingering sweetness to it as well.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: A best man speech that starts out rough, but features a smooth ending

Pairing Suggestion: A sweet bourbon

Perceived Strength: Medium

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack
