Good evening Small Batchers!
Today's discussion question comes from my friend Sean. We're putting together a post about helpful tips for smoking in the winter with a few friends, and he sent me the exerpt below that got me wondering:
What Type of Winter Smoker Are You?
Check out his thoughts below, and then let us know which type of smoker you are! You might already have a label from Sean, or maybe you've got something completely different going on. Comment below and be entered to win a $25 Small Batch gift card for adding to the discussion!
"As with cigars, not every situation will work for everyone and the same can be said for winter smoking. You may or may not recognize yourself in any of these descriptions:
- The Neanderthal: This person seems to be impervious to the cold. They need no encouragement to be out in the flying snow and below zero temperatures to enjoy a cigar. They need very little other than an outfit designed to keep the cold at bay and their crotch and non-smoking hand warm.
- The Snowman: This person, while not as DGAF as the Neanderthal, has some area cleared out in a shed, garage, or other shelter. Often times the snowman is not surrounded by the best scenery or would even say they are comfortable pressed up against boxes and other storage containers. But they are not in a snowsuit, and will usually have a heating source of some sort available to them. Mobile Loungers also fall into this category, as they most likely had to scrape off their car at some point before they can light up.
- The George Jefferson (not all of you will get this joke): This is a step up from the Snowman. Usually this person will have an area specifically designed in a shed or garage for their cigar smoking. It will have a much better heat source and comfortable seating. Some level of decoration, typically related to sport teams, beer and liquor, and cigars (otherwise known as the things they are not allowed to hang up in the actual house).
- High Society: This is the person that has a dedicated room inside the house, or belongs to a cigar club that is easily accessible no matter the weather. The room inside the house is fitted with a large humidor or many humidors. There is the same style of decorating, as stated above, and typically a bar, big screen, and/or gaming tables. Why would I include this as a category? Well, who the heck wouldn't want this as a winter option!?!"
If you don't know who Sean (@run2smoke) is, he's the ultimate cigar badass. As an added bonus, he looks dapper in purple. The featured image above is from his place in Canada, and I've seen him smoke cigars in weather that most of us wouldn't even get out of bed for. In fact, I'm pretty sure that he's 50% Viking, 50% Santa Claus, and 50% Polar Bear.

Whatever outside activity I am involved with, I bring a cigar. That includes ice fishing, hunting, (yes even deer hunting, and it fools the deer every time), shoveling snow, ( I just go very slowly), and walking through my neighbors 100 acre woods.
I also keep my old work car in the garage. I use the car as a buffer between the cold garage and the outside temperature because the garage door must be kept open while I experience my cigar. Otherwise my lovely wife who has a nose that rivals a blood hound will remind me that she doesn’t smok cigars.
She does like to smell the wrappers and give me her thoughts though.
So, smoking cigars in the winter must be dealt with according to what is available and the nearest B&M to me is 35 minutes making comfort while smoking a winter cigar a treat.

Also a special thanks to the Ladies for pointing out what I should have caught and corrected in the first place. We'll do better!
