Discussion: If You Were a Cigar...

Discussion: If You Were a Cigar...

Happy Tuesday folks! I was chatting with a friend about our personalities as cigars, and it got me wondering.

If YOU were a cigar, what characteristics would you have?

This is also a question that I used to ask a lot of interviewees, but it had a low return rate.  I think that, for the most part, people aren’t comfortable with introspection.  And that’s ok.  It’s kind of a personal question that is awkwardly open-ended.  Given the nature of this question, I'll be selecting TWO random comments this weekend to receive gift cards for joining the discussion.

If I were a cigar, I think I’d be a little rough around the edges.  Maybe a blemished wrapper series like Steve Saka’s Umbagog.  I’d most likely be a cigar that displays no signs of flash or pizazz but showcases an interesting flavor profile once lit.  Perhaps I’d be a Churchill, something that takes a bit of gumption and time to hit its stride and make an impression.

Pretty sure I'd be a bandless wonder, something that flies under the radar and is only known in small circles. I’d probably need to be smoked earlier rather than later, as I tend to get saltier with age. In the end, I think most would find that whiskey and I go together like peanut butter and jelly with one immediately complimenting the other.

CONTEST DETAILS

Two of the comments below will win a $25 gift card.  The gift card will automatically be sent to the email address that you login to comment with, so please use your regular sign-in.

I’ll be randomly selecting TWO comments below this Sunday before sending out the Weekly Newsletter. The winners can expect a comment with his or her name in it, a congratulations email, and an email with the $25 gift card information.  The actual gift card email takes some time to generate from the system and may lag behind by a couple hours.

Only available to U.S. customers.

Pretty sure I'd be a Drew Estate EGG......heh... big and beautiful!  lol  :-D

If I were a cigar, i would be a corona gorda with a closed foot, rustic wrapper, but plenty of flavor. I'd have a floral aroma like I get from a lot of Illusione cigars and slowly and stealthily build up in strength.

A sarcastic, belicoso maduro...

I'd probably be something with a dark maduro wrapper that is rough and toothy, with some rich flavors of dark chocolate and coffee, but a surprising lack of nicotine. Oh and it would be a oddly shaped figurado just because I'm weird like that.

Probably a nub.... 4x60 seems about right.

If I were a cigar I’d be something complex and intriguing, one that with time only gets better. From smooth refinement to quite strength and full flavor, I’d be one that may not start loudest in the room but would be the favorite by the end. A cigar each time
that has done that for me is the Partagus Serie D #4.

I'd be a cu-avana pvnisher.
No holds barred punch in the mouth to start that eventually turns into something pleseant if you put in the time

If I were a cigar, I would be a Montecristo No. 2 (CC):

First, the (CC)MC2s are and am overproduced. The high output from the factories leads to draw issues and sometimes being far too tight.

Second, being widely recognized because it used to offer a consistent quality you could expect, the brand and vitola delivered when called upon.

Third, the market has somewhat stabilized and the production issues are lesser than before. (or so I read) The (CC)MC2s are not back to where they used to be, but are slowly coming back around, but have brought attention to the other vitolas that offer great flavors, times, and construction.

Lastly, when you find a great (CC)MC2 with some age on it, it will deliver. It will connect with your heart, with what you seek in a cigar. Slow draws full of flavors and warmth, familiar tones and aromatics, and relaxation that pairs great with a drink.

So my friend, if I were a cigar, I would be one of the most sold cigars in the world, but we would have a great time.

Acid Red Nasty, little funny looking but provides a great short experience. Sweet on the palate with oomph where it counts

Id be the cigar that never fails to deliver, and at an affordable price. The old faithful that you can always reach for. May not be the snazziest or most popular but damn Im full bodied and consistent.

I'd think that i would be one of the "underrated" cigars. Not something everyone has heard of, but when you try it ill be in your regular rotation indefinitely.

I'd be a short Preferido - probably 5 3/8 x 46, a comfortable size with a understated classic look.  Maybe a criollo wrapper with a tidy modest band to complete the buttoned-down look, not that I'm the buttoned-down type, but I think that's a great look for a stick.
Taste wise, start out with cream/peanuts/graham crackers - transitioning to some hints of berries in the 2nd third and becoming more savory with a bit of earth in the final third.
I'd be a pleasant adventure that plays well with others - as long as the others are a sippable bourbon, or an Islay scotch!

I'd be the Saka Unicorn, because I'm freakin fabulous.

If I were a cigar, I would be a lancero, since I'm a stick or so I'm told. Ill start with a Sumatra wrapper and a habano binder. You have to like where I am going with this! The filler would consist of Cuban tobacco and just a few leaves of ligero. Ill call it the Chico Gringo.

I would be a cigar that is low maintenance Toro.  One when lit evenly burns and you can let sit for 10 minutes and not have to touch-up.  Wrapper-less so it flies under the radar and only real cigar connoisseurs know about, perhaps straight from a Nicaraguan or Cuban Factory, not for retail.

I would plain and simply want to be memorable. In the hopes of repeating the experience at another time, in another place...and the same place. Something to look forward to.

I'd definitely be something by Padron.  Pretty fantastic now and only gets better with age.  Solid, dependable and hard to find someone that doesn't like spending a couple of hours around a campfire with them!

Well definitely a large ring gauge. Something a little sweet, but bold.

If i were a cigar I would be a toro, natural wrapper. Flavor profile would be creamy, peppery and nutty. Medium to full body and strength.
