Discussion Contest: Crazy Pairings That Worked For You

Discussion Contest: Crazy Pairings That Worked For You

Happy Wednesday, folks!

Just a few days ago, Dion Giolito joined us in the virtual lounge and suggested that we try room temperature Dr. Pepper as a pairing with Illusione. I tried it – it was fantastic – and now I’m curious:

What Is the Craziest Pairing that You’ve Tried and Liked?

Login and comment below for a chance to win a Small Batch gift card this Sunday!

To be honest, I wasn’t that skeptical of warm Dr. Pepper.  I’m a huge fan of Dr. Pepper and cigars, along with a whole list of soft drinks in general.  But warm!? Never would’ve crossed my mind.

Turns out, I think I like it even better than cold Dr. Pepper.  You still get the refreshing bubbles of carbonation, but the temperature doesn’t mask anything from the cigar.  Another added benefit is that your can or glass doesn’t begin to sweat as time goes on.

I think this one is here to stay for me.  I’m even going to try room temperature root beer, cream soda, the works.  Why not?  Maybe it’ll add to the toolkit or, worst case, I realize Dr. Pepper is where this fad begins and ends.

Tell Us!  What’s the craziest pairing that you’ve tried and fell in love with?

It’s not crazy but my favorite pairing is old school Maxwell House original blend with a Caldwell Eastern Standard. Also goes great with a Cabiguan.

A Casa Turrent Serie 1901 with carne asada tacos fresh off the grill and chips and salsa. Probably should have guessed that Mexican food would compliment classic Mexican tobaccos but the thought just never crossed my mind and I was blown away at how each bite and puff just made it better and better.

I stumbled up ginger lemon tea and any medium + cigar (rocky patel 20th, angrosa supreme leaf, gotf claude me chien). I left my tea in the garage to cool and happened to grab a cigar. I wasn't sure I would like how spicy ginger can be, but boy did it draw out some flavor in the cigar. Who would have figured. Plus ginger is used to cleanse your pallet. It really contrasts a slightly stronger cigar with complex flavor. Especially complimentary towards a cigar with peppery tastes. I like to sip on water with light lemon or strawberry if I have a mild cigar. Best combo ive tried: blueberry maple syrup ale with gotf claude le chien and Casdagli pony express.

Best crazy pairing I can remember from a little bit back was a Powstanie with a Sierra Nevada coffee stout and Cajun trail mix from Walmart. Strange? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely!
