Cigar of the Week: Warped Black Honey

Cigar of the Week: Warped Black Honey

The third rendition of Black Honey opens up with black peppercorn amidst an earthy backdrop with just a touch of dark chocolate. I smoked one about a week after they landed and it was much bolder, but time has made this one much more enjoyable. It’s much more rounded, and each of the flavors compliment the other instead of fighting for first place.

A retro hale snaps me back to reality while staring at the simple yet oh-so-elegant band – Mexican Hot Chocolate smashes my sinuses and has me shaking my head. This cigar is everything Black Honey aims to be. Cruising around the corner of the first ash, a creamy floral element joins the mix too. Maybe a touch of hazelnut as well, although my nut game is weak. There’s a joke in there somewhere.

Around the halfway point, espresso really begins to drive the conversation. This blend is robust everywhere it wants to be, yet graceful everywhere it needs to be. I can’t pretend to understand the complexity of what it takes to recreate the magic of the original Black Honey, but this is about as close as it gets!

Funny thing, I was chatting with Kyle at PCA a few weeks ago about the same thing. How does one remain consistent in an ever-changing environment without being able to control everything from seed to shelf? I still don’t have any better grasp of the situation the way Kyle does, but I remember one thing he said: you have to trust the land. If you remember the first Black Honey, trust me that you need to land some of these in your humidor.

I’m so grateful that I let the rest of my box rest for the last several months before forming an opinion because even though my first impressions were very favorable, today’s experience is off the charts. If you also have some of these sitting in your humidor, please fire ‘em up and let me know your thoughts.
