My first introduction to Carson Serino was through a four pack pre-release Sampler. I remember opening this custom box up and finding the best pre-release presentation that I’ve ever seen. To this day, their professionalism has been unmatched.
Inside was a letter on heavy, textured paper explaining the cigars: dimensions, prices, composition, intention, you name it. And the cigars themselves featured their signature Serino Royale band that’s classier than a Martini on a Tuesday night.
But Carson didn’t just waltz onto the scene in 2016 with good intentions and fancy packaging. The Serino Royale series kicked a lot of ass, and both the Medio and Maduro XX were high on my list of favorites that year as well as plenty of others. Hell, the Connecticut even revitalized my appreciation of the blonde-colored wrappers.
Today, I’m smoking the Serino Royale Medio Petite Sublime from a box I picked up a couple months ago. I’ve been sick for a week and this is the cigar that kept calling my name waiting for my sense of smell and energy to return. My hope is that this box is similar to my consistent experience to date, although I just finished a box that was almost two years old. And if I remember correctly, each Serino Royale was rolled two years prior to market.

At first light, I’m getting that classic La Corona / Ecuadorian Habano vintage leather. The smoke is chewy and textured in all the right ways. A couple more minutes and I can taste peppercorn, cedar, and brownie mix! Exactly how I like my Serino Medios.
This size (petite sublime) is missing the waffle cone notes and ultra-creamy smoke that the robusto gordo vitola has, but makes up for it with more in-your-face brownie mix. I really don’t know how else to describe it.
Working down a little further, burnt molasses, subtle Christmas spices, and heavier cedar have taken the lead. Hints of chocolaty notes still flutter around in the background past the halfway point, but aren’t commanding my attention any longer.
All in all, it’s been a very pleasant Sunday cigar that I look forward to revisiting over and over for the next two years.
Recommendations:
Serino fans are mostly split down the middle on whether or not they prefer the Serino Medio or Maduro XX. And when I say split, I mean they seem to have a strong preference for one over the other. I find both to be highly enjoyable, but if you aren’t a fan of one I suggest you try the other since that’s the trend.
And if you haven’t experienced Serino at all before, I’m linking their Sampler below so that you can try the Royale line in one pack. Their Wayfarer is also high on my list, and I expect the new Taino will be too. Keep an eye out for these in new samplers!
I’d suggest this cigar to anyone that enjoys medium-bodied cigars that make you feel smooth like jazz. And if you love the Medio, you simply have to try the Wayfarer. Whereas the Medio is all soft lines and smooth edges, the Wayfarer is more rugged and edgy with a sick price point.
