ONEOFF +53 REVIEW – CALIFORNIA
Summary: This cigar has a partially closed foot, like a circumcision gone wrong. Sharp wood and a bubblegum/cherry sweetness. Thyme and anisette give this stick an herbal twang. I dig.
As great as it began, the second third isn't giving me much complexity. Just wood with a cool retrohale. Towards the end of this segment, it's beginning to taste ashy.
The final third has a hint of chocolate and nuts, but is mostly just earthy tobacco. I will say that the draw and burn has been spot on, if that means anything.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Raking wet leaves on asphalt.
Pairing Suggestion: Irish Car Bomb.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.
ONEOFF +53 REVIEW – WISCONSIN
Summary: Have you ever smoked your dessert? That's what this cigar was. It brought excellent flavors that all worked well together. Cream, pepper, chocolate, ample citrus, cedar, sweetness, floral, walnuts, and a chocolatey note near the end of each puff. Mmmmmm.
The pepper kept the core of creamy citrus interesting throughout. I didn't have a dull moment in the whole cigar.
It had perfect construction, too. A pleasantly snug draw and a no-effort burn rounded out a wonderful experience.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: If you like dessert, this cigar is dessert.
Pairing Suggestion: A nice ale.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Box, in case it wasn't obvious from my glowing praise.
ONEOFF +53 REVIEW – OREGON
Summary: Light barnyard and oregano scent from the wrapper had me wondering what this cigar was all about. The cold draw was a little tight...but it had a closed foot so that may be it. Upon lighting it, I was wrong; the draw remained tighter than I like for sure.
Initially, cedar and floral notes really ruled the game and once in a while some cinnamon would find it’s way into the mix as well. The retro-hale featured more of the floral flavors and some red pepper flake finishing on the long side. Progressing past the middle of the stick, the flavors never really changed for me but they did soften and transition in and out as the lead flavor.
Around the midway point, some mild citrusy notes appeared in the retro-hale as well. Thankfully the cigar found it’s way to a more reasonable draw resistance around the halfway mark.
The final third graced me with a nice tunnel right in the center of the cigar. The entire last third I had to fight to get smoke production and the flavors, of course, took a turn downward.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: If you like this you like movies with good plots but bad endings.
Pairing Suggestion: Pair this with a latte as the sun rises or a porter as it sets.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: I am going to say fiver purchase. I liked the flavor profile up until the final third...and that was construction related shift. I’m not going to preach here on construction woes with handmade products.
