HVC 500THANNIVERSARY REVIEW – CALIFORNIA
Summary: Peanuts on the cold draw. Red pepper, cedar, and peat pique my interest. It kind of reminds me of a See's candy, but I can't figure out which one. Normandie maybe (vanilla, brown sugar, nuts, and dark chocolate)? I perused their website to try to pinpoint what I was tasting and that's my best guess.
Moving into the second third, this cigar continues to get it on with my palate. Nougat and maple syrup. Fresh fig. Man, I hope a box of these doesn't cost one stimulus check. Is roasted coconut a thing? The ash just fell in my lap and I said thank you and wanted to throw dolla dolla bills at it.
Final third. I feel like I'll look like a clown if I try to pull out any more obscure tasting notes. This has got to be an ultra-premium stick like a Byron. Honey and cinnamon at the finish. Hats and pants off to this cigar.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: That scene in Beauty and the Beast where rain comes down like fireworks and The Beast becomes Fabio.
Pairing Suggestion: Rum.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Box.
HVC 500THANNIVERSARY REVIEW – WISCONSIN
Summary: This cigar started out with a big blast of flavors: cinnamon, brown sugar, pepper, and oak. It settled down a bit and went into cruise control with umami, oak, pepper, maple, and brown sugar. In the final third, nuts and chocolate joined the profile.
Construction-wise, it was packed quite densely. Draw and burn had no real flaws; it was a well-made cigar.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal, but smoother and better.
Pairing Suggestion: Bourbon.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Fiver.
HVC 500THANNIVERSARY REVIEW – OREGON
Summary: Habano wrapper. Just a guess though. Dry grass and a little sweetness in the cold draw.
Leather, walnut, cinnamon toast and just a little heat. There’s another baking spice rolling around in the mix too... hafta work on identifying that one. The retro hale carries creamy citrus notes along with walnut, leather and a bit of cedar.
Middle portion is full of citrus notes among with mild wood flavors and hints of cinnamon sweetness mixed with sourdough bread. Smoke output has fallen just a bit, but it still has a nice creamy texture.
To the finish! Smoke production back into the green. Citrus changing to floral. Make that sweet floral. Walnuts, cream and leather. This cigar was perfectly constructed and other than diminished smoke in the middle, nearly flawless.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Cigars with floral and citrus profiles.
Pairing Suggestion: An IPA with tropical notes.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5-pack.
