BLIND Cigar Review: Dapper La Madrina Robusto

Dapper La Madrina Review - California

Summary: Green pepper and milk chocolate from the first puff.  An inch down, I'm getting raspberry candy (tart and sweet).  Out of freakin' nowhere, all the flavors dropped off the map except potting soil.  I'm a fan of dirt, so I'm not flipping out yet.

The second third seems to have gotten up from the ground and dusted itself off: Coffee cake with pecans.  Butttttt once again, the flavors start to slip.

More pecans in the final third. I had to touch it up a few times (the cigar, not the butt), but nothing drastic.  All in all, this was a mellow smoke with some flashes of tastiness here and there.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Tossing pizza dough.  Fun to do, but the result never quite meets your expectation.

Pairing Suggestion: Baileys and coffee.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Fiver.

Blind Cigar Reviews: La Madrina by Dapper Cigar Co

Dapper La Madrina Review - Wisconsin

Summary: The flavor progression on this cigar was interesting, both as the cigar went along and with each individual puff. Throughout the cigar, I got notes of creamy cedar, sweetness, lots of cocoa, floral notes, cereal grain, oak, hickory, chocolate, spice, and a meatiness near the end. It started with a mild body, but pretty quickly moved up to medium.

Each puff followed a nice progression of starting with cocoa, then moving on to the wood notes, and then a long finish with some spiciness to it. The other flavors joined in occasionally, but they revolved around this progression, which was quite pleasant.

The cigar ended with flavors of chocolate, spice, and brown sugar lingering in my mouth for a long time after I was done.

Construction-wise, the draw was good and the burn, while wavy on occasion, always corrected itself.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: Cocoa with some spice.

Pairing Suggestion: Root beer.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Box.

Blind Cigar Reviews: Dapper La Madrina

Dapper La Madrina Review - Oregon

Summary: This is a beautiful cigar with nearly invisible seems and just appears perfectly constructed. The cold draw is a little tighter then I would prefer but we’ll see how things go.

Things begin with floral notes, cedar, mild caramel sweetness and white pepper...lots of white pepper in the retrohale.

The draw is even tighter than I originally thought and it’s hampering smoke production in a big way. Additionally, within the first inch of the cigar I’ve had to apply one very large burn correction.

After working my way past a large tunnel at the halfway point, I’m finally picking up some softer leather notes, more floral flavors and some oak but I am still struggling with a very tight draw and a cigar that does not want to stay lit.

The cigar closes out with some nice sweet, light floral notes, soft leather and very mild natural tobacco. The biggest problem with this cigar was all of the maintenance I had to perform along the way. That really detracted from the entire experience.

If You Like That, You Might Like This: If you like this then you probably like large efforts and small rewards.

Pairing Suggestion: Pair this with a light crisp brew or cold ice tea.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single stick purchase.

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
