Black Label Trading Co Morphine Review 2019

Summary:  This thin stick has a noticeable lilt to it.  Starting out with leather and oak.  There's a peculiar, damp, floral note that I'm going to call petunias and petrichor.  Not too far in and it's already turning bitter.

Second third opens with dark, bitter chocolate.  The mouthfeel is chewy and has me reaching for water often.  Black pepper on the retro hale.

Final third is becoming overwhelming in the strength department.  Cloves and chocolate covered cherries.  Celery bitters (that's a new one).  Although the complexity has gained some yardage near the end, this stick started deep in its own territory so I'm punting.

Blind Cigar Reviews: Black Label Morphine '19

Summary:  When a lancero is just right, it's one of the best cigar experiences out there. Unfortunately, that's not this lancero.

As I get long and skinny with it, I taste earth, pepper, spice, baking spices, floral notes, black tea, leather, and cedar. The pepper and spice really led the way and were not balanced by other flavors; it wasn't a very interesting or enjoyable flavor profile for me because of that lack of balance and harmony between flavors.

The burn needed several corrections, but the draw had no problems.

This cigar has potential with some age; maybe it will mellow out and the flavors will blend together better. As it was, I was not a fan.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Spicy meatballs.

Pairing Suggestion:  Bourbon.

BLTC Morphine Review 2019

Summary:  Lancero’s tend to be polarizing for me purely on construction.  This week’s cigar is wrapped with a very dark leaf and offers perfect draw resistance.  Cocoa and rich tobacco flavors in the cold draw; let’s get some heat going.

Initially, dank earth, leather, black tea and black pepper spice round out a nice profile.  There is a hint of sweetness rolling around as well.  Retro hale flavors really mimic the palate notes but accentuate the pepper spice.  Burnt toast with a touch of molasses finds its way into the mix as well.

The profile flavors in the middle don’t really change a lot, but that’s fine with me.  It’s still really good.  If anything, the pepper spice drops out a bit, replaced with charred wood and hints of cocoa. The construction of the cigar is perfect. Great draw and tons of smoke.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Breakfast in bed.

Pairing Suggestion:  A sweet profile porter.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  Box it up!
