Discussion Contest: Cigar Podcasts

Discussion Contest: Cigar Podcasts

Happy Wednesday, folks!

I hope you’re enjoying your short Labor Day work week, and hopefully with a few cigars to boot.

I’m starting to prep for several days of travel, and I find myself downloading cigar-related podcasts.  Which brings me to this week’s discussion contest:

Which cigar podcasts do you listen to, if any?

I can’t wait to hear what the fan favorites are!  Rather than highlight the big ones that we all know about, I’ll throw out a few of my personal favorite underdogs in the industry.

Here are a few of my personal go-to cigarcasts from the last time I traveled:

Best Cigar Podcasts: The Sultans of Smoke

Sultans of Smoke Podcast: I must admit bias here, because a contributor to our Blind Review Panel brings the bull weekly on this cigarcast, and once upon a time I used to skype in from the train tracks.  You’ll also recognize Drew from the original Sultans of Smoke review site and boutique cigar brand, Mo from Patina Cigars, and Danny from RoMa Craft.  They call it the Lounge In Your Pocket, and this podcast is similar to being in a lounge and kickin’ it with the crew.

Best Cigar Podcasts: The Ash Holes

The Ash Holes: This podcast is recorded in front of a live audience with all of the structure, studio sound quality, and sponsors that you’d expect.  If you’re into the traditional Radio sound, these guys have nailed it down!  You can tell these guys have been around the industry for a while, and there’s always up-to-date reviews on the latest cigar releases.  Oliver from United Cigars also appears from time to time on this show, albeit less frequently than way back when.  Whereas the other two shows are rated R, this show remains more wholesome.

Best Cigar Podcasts: The Lounge Experience

The Lounge Experience: If you’re familiar with Amy (@blossomsmokess) and Erica (@errican) from social media, you know exactly why you have to subscribe to this podcast if you haven’t already.  These ladies throw down on a weekly basis and bring in plenty of interesting guests.  There’s usually plenty of whiskey flowing as well, which makes every conversation feel like you’re at the cigar bar with friends.  This cigarcast just launched earlier this year and it’s already climbing a lot of mental lists!

Note: There are loads of great cigar-related podcasts out there and this author's intent is not to show favoritism from Small Batch Cigar, but rather highlight some lesser known talent in our community that deserve consideration.

Tell Us!  What are your favorite cigar podcasts and why?

Not really "Podcasts" but I will listen to cigar-coop every once in awhile. George Brightman has some amazing interviews on youtube that I have probably watched 5 times. I have given one or two podcasts a listen and the ones I tried I wasn't feeling.

Gonna have to give the AshHoles a listen. Other great cigar podcasts to check out are the Cigar Noise Bois, the Hot Ticket Podcast, and a Cigar Hustler's Podcast. They're all great podcasts to listen to along with SoS and TLE.

My absolute favorite podcast is the Sultans. But as for other relatively low key podcasts, I enjoy Cigar Hustler, Cigar-Coop, and El Oso Fumar Takes.

I love the Cigar Authority. It's the perfect podcast to keep me company while I smoke.

I tune into the Boveda Box Press podcast once in a while. I like Rob's demeanor and the casual, conversational nature of the podcasts. Perhaps what stands out most is that, Rob--who certainly knows plenty about cigars--usually hosts industry heavyweights who far surpass him in cigar experience. I can relate to this (perhaps unintentional) David & Goliath vibe, being a younger and more novice cigar smoker myself.

Cigar Authority or Cigar Coop. But honestly I would rather jump on youtube and watch re runs of the Dr Joe Show (A must if you have never seen, especially for Cuban smokers.) That man was a wealth of information.

I’ve really enjoyed listening to James podcast over at SimplyStogies.com

His approach to topics as a newer cigar is refreshing.

I need to listen to more podcasts. I have checked out the Simply Stogies Podcast. James, the host, has one hell of a smooth voice that makes it worth listening. He is the Barry White of Cigar podcasts lol. Seriously it is a great podcast for someone just getting into cigars.

I dont listen to a pod cast but have been an avid watcher of Cigar Obsession but YouTube has kind of killed his channel as of late.

Top 3 would probably be Cigar Authority, Ashholes, and cigar talk. I know there is a lot of good ones and my tastes change, but right now those are getting the most play time

I listen to the Simplystogies podcast. James has a good cadence and his take on the hobby as a new smoker is refreshing and reminds me of when I was starting out.

The One and Only Rebar is pretty entertaining.  I’ve only done a few episodes with Tyler for The CigarNoise Bois, but hopefully soon we’ll be bringing the chicken to your ear holes.

Simply Stogies is my go to for cigar podcasts. News, reviews, and that luscious voice.
9/4/2019 2:18 PM
Simply Stogies is great for people who want a podcast to follow along in their cigar journey.
9/4/2019 2:21 PM
Hands down my favorite cigar podcast is Simply Stogies. Not only does it have great audio quality, it spans a range of topics from the host's own experience, products, cigar reviews, and corporate big wig interviews while also being an easy, engaging listen.

As a new cigar smoker I would have to say my favorite podcast is Simply Stogies. James explains cigar lingo well, and reviews cigars that I have smoked! Each episode is either a experience, review or he has a guest. Lots of good stuff!
9/4/2019 4:03 PM
This is a super easy question for me.. Simply Stogies. It's a great Podcast and the host James is fantastic. Not only is there a ton to learn from the show, joining James as he explores the hobby and brings us along on his journey has been really special. Definitely one to make sure you never miss.

There are a bunch of good ones! I listen to: TLE, Sultans of Smoke, CigarNoise Bois on the regular. Also on the slightly-less-than-regular-but-still-often, The Hot Ticket and Cigar Coop. I need to check out Cigar Hustler next. We've gotten to the point where there are more good cigar podcasts than time to listen.
9/7/2019 7:29 AM
I’ve listened to all three.  I’m been sticking with TLE because they have fun on the show even though they get on a rant from time to time that gets a little heavy handed.  I do enjoy the laughter and the insight they provide.  Also, I’m giving sultans a shot as they are having fun but need to catch up on inside jokes.  I’ve learned a lot about smoke and the culture from these shows.

I'm an avid podcast listener but a new cigar smoker. I'll have to give these a try!

Congrats to Brett!  Thanks to everyone for participating this week!

Cigar Coop & Simply Stogies are the two I listen to. They're both good stuff.
